Old Rent, Law No. 10 of 2022, ratified by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and published in the Official Gazette, approved a set of new controls to regulate the relationship between the landlord and the tenant in old rental contracts related to legal persons.

The law stipulates the application of an annual increase of 15% on the value of the last monthly rent collected, with this increase to come into effect as of March 2025.

This annual increase is imposed for a period of 5 consecutive years starting with the application of the law, as it is due in March of each year throughout the transitional period that aims to enable the parties to adapt to legal changes.

 

Termination of contracts after the expiry of the term

By March 2027, the five-year period ends, and tenants are required to hand over the rented units to the owners. If the parties wish to continue the rental relationship, new contracts are drawn up according to the agreement between the two parties.

Definition of a legal person

The term "legal person" refers to entities such as companies, associations, institutions, unions, or public bodies that own or rent real estate under old rental contracts.
